Smell of spring awakens feelings deep inside this heart of mine Please remember when we’re older and we’re left behind Give me hours and give me summer Give me curiosity Hope we never ever settle as you go move on and on from me We can’t give any more Like breathing on the ocean floor Something only in dreams for us to find We may understand in time But today, here for now I’m leaving behind all the clouds Just to say Just to say Always visit in my dreams and in these memories I swim Always in familiar places, we begin again We have hours and we have summer We have curiosity Here in flowers, here in wonder Here and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on with me We can’t give anymore Like breathing on the ocean floor Something only in dreams for us to find We may understand in time But today, here for now I’m leaving behind all the clouds On and on On and on with me On and on with me There’s a vision in the night Like a risen light On and on with me Something moving in the dark When we pull apart On and on with me All I see is all around In the up and down On and on with me And I could feel it all so real For a moment in time On and on with me Where do we go in a day What are we to say On and on with me Till there’s a vision in the light And it shines On and on and on and on and on and on...

Shining 03:17
Light Come and feel the light Over all the world this time I know we need it, alright In flight Pressure on the flight There’s some turbulence this time And I’m uneasy, I might be Asleep at the wheel That’s not how I’m supposed to feel But you took a shining to me And we can be who we want to be Genevieve, we’re sentimental people Fall Passing through us all In the middle of a storm You never feel it at all But there’s a call Coming from a mountain tall It’s so hard to not feel small And you’re uneasy, but we can’t be Asleep at the wheel That’s not how we’re supposed to feel But you took a shining to me And we can be who we want to be Genevieve, we’re sentimental people Asleep at the wheel (Here I am in the night like a risen light) That’s not how I’m supposed to feel (Holding on real tight) But you took a shining to me And we can be who we want to be Genevieve, we’re sentimental people

Here and now Where we are in a playhouse The safest sound Like we’re lost in a dream Awake, I’ve found I return to the same few memories But this river that’s been flowing It’s running like its mad and You’ve said things you can’t take back And would you if you could I hold on to you tight, more than I should I wasn’t ready for this information Now I wanna leave and let you down But you’re something of my own creation Here and now, now I’m such a sucker for this kind of loving When I see you there behind a screen With a radio forever humming Till we sleep at night Dream in green Tornado clouds They’ve been dragging us deeper and deeper The strangest sounds keep me locked in a room So what do we do when we drown in the deepest blue From that river that’s been flowing And don’t you think it’s strange how We are taught to keep the colors inside of their lines When autumn shows us sunsets every time I wasn’t ready for this information Now I wanna leave and let you down But you’re something of my own creation Here and now, now I’m such a sucker for this kind of loving (Sucker for this kind of loving) When I see you there behind a screen With a radio forever humming (Radio forever humming) Till we sleep at night Dream in green Another year What’s it mean to be older And things are weird Ages since we were small I know this fear right here is one I’ll always hold Till I sleep at night Dream in green

In the garden here Wild chandeliers And I’ll be swinging from them on and off You could join me, sure What you’ve got is pure And to be honest, I think that’s all I can take In rivers when they fall away Move around in love The experience of And all the wondering that finds us there I make enough mistakes Do I have what it takes I lose me so many times within a day In rivers when they fall away Fall away Any circumstance Life deserves a chance Let me feed you from the soil I’m here to stay In rivers when they fall away Open up my heart Let’s see where it starts When there are miles for us to figure out But you’re not just your face It’s not for them to place In the garden, we are here and clear as day In rivers when they fall away Fall away Any circumstance Life deserves a chance Let me feed you from the soil I’m here to stay In rivers when they fall away

Star 05:09
I feel the earth around me turning We cheer another glass I can see the stars align Sometimes it happens all so fast I feel a spark alive and burning We laugh all through the night Till the sun is coming up And it’s burning our starlight Before it’s over Do we get closure I feel my senses now are turning Emerging from my shell It’s magic when the stars align And I’m good here with myself I feel the race around me burning But I don’t have to run I’m ready to believe again without believing in someone Can we be closer Here in forever like I’ve always known her And now that it’s over Do we get closure

Square 1 04:03
I can’t deal with all this cold And I’ll probably die before I’m old With stars that burn like neon in the night They’re a light I find When I need some peace of mind When I’m feeling lost in the sand When I’m tired of wasting all my plans Illusions, delusional confusion With no solution to where I stand When it’s not like I had planned Gotta pick it up and it’s back to square one It's back to square one! I can’t deal with all this change And I feel it more-so as I age Cause we are precious We burn like neon in the night We are light And we strive to be more than just alive So when I’m feeling lost in the sand When I’m tired of wasting all my plans Illusions, delusional confusion With no solution to where I stand When it’s not like I had planned When my feet can’t stay on land And I’m feeling lost in the waves When I’m losing my mind in confined space Illusions, delusional confusion No solution to where I stand When it’s not like I had planned And it’s back to square one!

Labor Early in the morning Late in the eve Been working in a fever Loans on top of loans They chain us deep Soon Thought you’d break it through But nothings ever new Kill me slowly I’ve been underneath the weather No time for me to heal I’m oh so ill Dying in the desert Dying for a man on a golden hill We’re all addicts Addicted to the drinking Oh, all these drugs I’ve been smoking in the attic I’m just trying to make it through another one Of these days Function in a haze Been thinking up the ways I can sneak a little Relieve a little Underneath the weather No time for me to heal I’m oh so ill Dying in the desert Been dying for a man on a golden hill And you know what I’m feeling Cause baby, we just work And then we die And there’s no deeper meaning It’s a lovely scam, a sham God bless a family man Far away, beneath the ocean There’s a darkness ever growing In the blink of an eye it’s there inside you I’m not going to work today You can’t make me go to work today I’m not going to work today You can’t make me go to work today I’m not going to work today You can’t make me go to work today I’m not going to work today You can’t make me go to work today I’m not going to work today You can’t make me go to work today I’m not going to work today You can’t make me go to work today All our representatives are attending to other callers at this time Your call is very important to us Please stay on the line and we will attend to you next week

Astoria 04:29
The sky is blue tonight Electric light Calling out across the river Are you alright The sky is blue and there’s explosions in the air And if the aliens are coming Are we sticking around You called me right away Told me where to stay Said you’d be right there So I concentrated on the stars Hiding out here in the cool wet darkness Rub my eyes to visualize That green television in my head Supercomputer in my bed Tie me up in cable wires Thread me a needle to the heart On the operating table cart Can anyone tell me why the sky is blue tonight Electric light Calling out across the river Are you alright The sky is blue and there’s explosions in the air And if the aliens are coming Are we sticking around You left me on the phone Hanging there alone When you said you’d be right back So I left and went to get some help Racing for my life in cool wet darkness Close my eyes to visualize Those green televisions in my head Supercomputers in my bed Tie me up in cable wires Thread me a needle to the heart On the operating table cart And nobody knows why the sky is blue tonight Electric light Calling out across the river Are you alright The sky is blue and there’s explosions in the air And if the aliens are coming Are we sticking around Huh! I find myself lost in shadows In shadows, oh in shadows

Daisy 04:20
You know I hope that there’s life out there Cause, it’d be pretty sad and lonely if we were the only guys out here You know what I mean? The only car in the garage The only monkey in the tree You know? It’d be pretty damn sad The sky is melting fast The colors, they don’t last We have to catch them Soon, they’ll turn to gray Sand between our toes Saltwater in our nose The earth begins to wash the sun away Daisy, am I dreaming Have I been here before You look so familiar And I wanna know you more Underneath the orange and the purple, all is still A sunset we could die in here on a golden hill Everything you’re scared of Everything you adore And everything you’d do if death was waiting for you by the shore We’re safe, don’t hold it in It’s just us and the pelicans All I can be with you is myself And no one else, and no one else And Daisy, am I dreaming Have I been here before You look so familiar And I wanna know you more and more And underneath the orange and the purple, all is still A sunset we could die in Here on a golden hill Oh Daisy, won’t you stay with me tonight In places so familiar And everything’s alright Oh Daisy, won’t you stay here in my heart With magic in this moment With shining in the stars Oh Daisy, won’t you stay with me tonight In places so familiar And everything’s alright Oh Daisy, won’t you stay here in my heart With magic in this moment We’re shining in the stars Together we are frozen in everything we are With magic in this moment and shining in the stars Coming apart I see you in the falling rain Coming apart I see you in the falling rain

Here, walking on the water above a million eyes In our own paradise we found And we’re never coming down To be kids To bloom in this Before summer’s just another season blending into mist When it’s all alive in a strawberry sky And the sun is setting for the world So soft and easy Like this risen light, I need you to stay in this meadow in the clouds Always Here, we are only stardust in this lonely life And there was paradise we lost at much too high a cost But we grew up and we lost touch And summer’s just another season underneath the sun When it’s all alive in a strawberry sky And the moon is glowing for the world So soft and easy Like this risen light, I need you to stay in this meadow in the clouds Always I saw you out the other day Neither of us knew what to say And you were stuck there in my mind An old friend from another life I think it’s funny how it goes There was a time when I knew you close But like the shimmer of the wind You are there and you’re gone again Feeling up and feeling down We are lost and we are found The more I learn the more I feel alone And everything’s alright Everything’s alright We have sunsets in paradise I saw you out the other day Neither of us knew what to say And you were stuck there in my mind An old friend from another life I think it’s funny how it goes There was a time when I knew you close But like the shimmer of the wind You are there and you’re gone again We said things we can’t take back And would we if we could I hold on to you tight, more than I should And everything’s alright And everything’s alright We have sunsets in paradise Everything's alright

We’ve been feeling attraction A magnetic reaction Here with the flashing lights all overhead passing We fall away And I haven’t seen your face in forever We’ve been under the weather But in this moment I swear, nothing is better Let’s fall away Cause there’s no other party like we’ve got here now No, there’s no other party like we’ve got here now And as we all get older Our circles quickly shrink As we become all tangled and tied up in routines Just know I’m thankful for you That you made time for me That we can share this moment That we can find some peace Here, every time Just release We’ve made some big decisions We’ve seen powerful visions There’s sacrifices made There’s terms and conditions And we fall away Oh, but if I ever knew you And if you were my friend I keep a place for you real close I go there when I need it most These memories are real Sometimes it’s all we have And I don’t take anything for granted It means so much, I swear And there’s no other party like we’ve got here now No, there’s no other party like we’ve got here now And as we all get older Our circles quickly shrink As we become all tangled and tied up in routines Just know I’m thankful for you That you made time for me That we can share this moment That we can find, that we can find Some peace of mind together Suspended in the air Where we make our own weather And we’ve got love to spare Oh, this world can be so brutal It gets darker every day But we hold all the colors to wash the dark away Here, every time Just release Just release

about

A Sunset We Could Die In is the record that I’ve always been trying to make. I know a lot of artists say that, and maybe I’ll even say that again about another project someday. But it’ll never be as true as it is for this one. The roots of this album go back to 2018, right after I released A Sword of Holly under my previous band name Flora. I was 23 then, and I’m 28 now, so the fact that this music still resonates with me is something I feel very proud of.

The themes are mostly focused on what friendship means to me, which is oftentimes something deeper and more intimate than what society deems. This is true especially in the friendships of queer people, where emotions are big and love spills over. I turn to music to make sense of the feelings that get tangled inside.

From Familiar Places to Star, the first five songs float inside the caves and waterfalls of human relationships; where the melancholia of old friends drifting away fades into the excitement of someone new who shakes you back alive. Rivers (Fall Away) is set somewhere lush and aquamarine, emulating the cool and relaxed vibes of city pop, complete with the smoothest of saxophone solos. “In the garden we are here and clear as day.” We can be who we want to be!

The record also deals with the fears of being a person in our modern world. In Square 1, Underneath the Weather, and Astoria, I am completely overwhelmed by the dystopia we find ourselves in. Never fully recovering from mental and physical sickness, feeling like a corporate droid with the anxiety of an alien takeover; the phrase “You can’t make me go to work today!” becomes a full blown battle cry, backed by sinister fuzz bass and a demonic carnival organ.

Everything culminates in the final three songs of Daisy, Strawberry Sky, and Disco Friends. The fall and the rise, the longing and the bargaining, the frustration and the acceptance. “Feeling up and feeling down, we are lost and we are found." Somewhere between the hopelessness and the hope is something human and complex and ever-changing; always in familiar places, we begin again.

I hope this music is somewhere you can find escape. Here, we exist in gardens with wild chandeliers and strawberry meadows in the clouds. We dream inside shades of green and melt inside skies of orange and purple. With Genevieve and Daisy; in the electric blue of Astoria and the infinite galaxies of Star. With a radio forever humming.

Just release.
